Abstract

Regional development is perceived in economic literature as the economic growth presented in positive sense of view. Usually it represents the raise of economic indicators and living standards of population, however from geographic point of view the raise of these indicators can have a negative impact on regions. Economic growth does not necessarily have to be associated with development of regions, although this one cannot be imagined without it. Regional development of any region must be based on the quality of environment which furthermore influences the quality of life of inhabitants. Regions represent frames of society existence. Some of them are overburdened (cities, industrial regions, etc.) by economic activities. Providing the high-quality life conditions cannot be ensured by freely operating market mechanism, because in nature environment there are a lot of freely available material elements (water, air, etc.); and along with them there are households that waste a lot. These are the negative aspects of regional development taken into consideration by geography.
