Abstract
The paper assesses the level of anthropogenic fragmentation in the borderland area between Moravia and Slovakia using indicator the effective mesh size taking into account cross-border connections (CBC). The comparison was made at the level of 44 administrative units represented in the Czech Republic by administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers (SO ORP) and districts on the Slovak side. The resulting values oscillates from the mesh size of 25.4 km² for SO ORP Kopřivnice to 491.6 km² in the Slovak district of Čadca. The average mesh size for the entire model area is 215 km². In general, significantly higher levels of fragmentation (i.e. lower effective mesh size) were reported on the Moravian side of the border and, on the contrary, most of Slovak districts belong to low fragmented areas.
