Abstract

The concepts of creative economy and creative class have been in the forefront of debate over the past few years in the academic field - exploring the relationship between creative industries and creative class and local/regional development, but they are often already incorporated in regional policies and local development strategies. On the other hand, however, these concepts also meet relatively harsh criticism. Many authors, among other things, criticize the focus on urbanized regions, while the relationship between creative industries and economic growth and development in rural areas is still not sufficiently documented. The paper deals with the issue of the creative economy and its sectors in terms of regions of the Slovak Republic in general and with a specific focus on rural regions. The aim is to identify and partly quantify the impact of creative industries on regional development as well as on the development of social and institutional environment at local level. The methodology is based on the application of regression analysis methods and questionnaire survey.

Keywords: creative industries, rural regions, economic effects, social impact
