Abstract

The paper presents the initial results of the analysis of newspaper weather forecasting maps, representing global, national, regional and local newspapers from 27 countries in 4 continents. Attention was focused on the classification of the base layers of the map in terms of the nature of supporting geographic location information. The result is the finding of nine core classes of base maps.
