Territorial Cooperation in Nitra Self-governing Region (a Case Study)

Abstract

Territorial co-operation of the European countries is extremely important for their social, economic and territorial development and it is also a driving force of the EU enlargements. Realization of euroregions influences the implementation of European Territorial Co-operation programs but, in the last few years, there are new territorial cooperation supporting instruments coming to fore – the European Groupings of Territorial Co-operation. These are the first instruments supporting the territorial cooperation covered by the European legislature. The aim of this paper is to evaluate current activities of these instruments at local and regional levels in the Slovak Republic focusing on Nitra Self-governing region.
