Abstract
Although a large number of authors is devoted to the research on marginality, majority of these studies captures only some aspects of this multidimensional phenomenon. Thus, this article reflects one of the neglected approaches in this context – perceptual marginality. Concise theoretical introduction into the topic preceded methodological debate related to the utility of various methods suitable for the research on perception of space and spatial processes. Latter, our attention focuses on two specific case studies demonstrating research on perceptual marginality within Irish and Slovak rural context, where we aim to point out the merits of this approach in research on marginality as such.
