Abstract

The paper deals with geographical characteristics of shopping tourism in the scope of outlet centre, which shows a new segment among shopping destinations in Slovak area. Firstly, we concentrate on the theoretical background and overview of published studies related to transformation of retail especially by Slovak and Czech geographers and formation of the phenomenon of shopping tourism. The next part is devoted to the delimitation of the area of interest, mostly in the light of location assumptions. The main section of the paper lies in the analysis of the questionnaire survey realized at the outlet centre in the municipality of Voderady, which provided useful findings about shopping customs and habits of Slovak customers. Finally, we summarize the obtained results and present a prototype of the model customer, who is typical for target outlet centre, while we point out the issues that should be improved in the future.
