Abstract

Bačka region in Vojvodina (Serbia) is one of the areas, which were in the process of historical development influenced by the presence and coexistence of various ethnic groups from the Central and South-eastern Europe. As example we present the landscape of Slovak enclave in Pivnica on south-west outskirts of the Bačka loess platform. Modern Age landscape development of the municipality Pivnica (Serbian Pivnice) after 1790 was affected by the arrival of the Slovaks of Transdanubia. Slovak ethnic group shortly after their arrival began to cultivate pasture-arable land, which was used previously by Serbs mainly to livestock farming. The aim of this paper is the reconstruction of long-term changes in the local landscape using thematic maps and profiles of cultural-landscape layers. In terms of time, we will cover the period from the late 18th century (1790) until 2009.

Keywords: Serbia, Pivnica, Slovak enclave, land use, cultural-landscape layer
