Abstract
Calculation of N-year maximum discharges for profiles without direct observations is one of the key problems which is being researched not only in hydrology, but also in geography. In the paper, we deal with the comparison of two empirical methods used for the estimation of 100-year maximum discharge for the Vyčoma stream (Klátova Nová Ves profile). Particularly, we used the regional empirical formula (Dub, 1957) and volume empirical formula (Čerkašin, 1958). Based on the comparison of these two methods, the volume formula gives a higher 100-year maximum discharge by 37.65% as compared to the regional formula. The reasons for different results are also discussed in the paper along with the possible sources of uncertainties for the calculation of design discharges for (ungauged) profiles without direct observations.
