Abstract

Cultural ecosystem services (CES) are directly responsible for the quality of life in urban systems and are directly used and valued by residents and visitors of urban systems (Plieninger et al., 2013, Zulian et al., 2018). In our research, we are evaluating green areas in an urbanized environment in terms of vegetation quality, space design, environmental quality, management and amenities. In this paper, we present part of a new methodical approach for a thorough analysis and assessment of the environment and its equipment (furniture, playgrounds and other amenities for different age categories), and measures to improve the current state in order to maximise benefits obtained from ecosystem services. The methodological approach was applied at Chrenová district in Nitra, on the areas P1, P2, P3. The research results showed that the area P1, P2 falls into the category "the average level of benefits provided by cultural ecosystem services” and area P3 falls into the category "the low level of benefits related with cultural ES". This research implies that the equipment affects the quality of CES provided
