Abstract

The aim of the article is to identify and describe the basic locally specific aspects of the urbanization process in selected Asian countries that must be currently dealt with by both central government and local governments, due to urbanization dynamics that have been growing significantly over the past few decades, and to focus on the starting points for sustainable development in the future from the urbanization perspective. With regard to the individual countries, the article focuses on China, the Republic of Korea and Japan. The main method applied is desk research based on the analysis of current professional scientific publications and subsequent mutual comparative analysis of the findings. Different trends can currently be seen in the analysed countries, but similar parallels can be observed in terms of time development.
