Abstract

The paper deals with the issues of regional differentiations of fisheries at the regional level in Slovakia. The mentioned regional inequalities are predetermined by the variety of their conditions, activities of legal entities in fisheries and different intensity of activities of users within the particular fishing grounds. Disparities at the regional level are characterized according to the analysis of information on distribution and number of legal entities in fisheries as well as fishing grounds based on their administrator, character and purpose. The processing of those issues comes out from the acquired and further compiled statistical materials. Currently, there are 170 legal entities in fisheries in Slovakia, whereas they are distributed unequally in the Regions of Slovakia. The most of them is located in the Žilina Region (38). Within the scope of their orientation, the majority of them is focused on fish farming (144), while just 20 are concentrated on fish processing. In Slovakia, there are registered 1,920 fishing grounds, which are predominantly in the administration of the Slovak Angling Association. According to the structure, even 57.3% of them have a carp character, while the most of fishing grounds (74.4%) has a fishing purpose.

Keywords: fisheries, legal entities in fisheries, fishing grounds, character and purpose of fishing grounds, regions of Slovakia
