Abstract

A lack of necessary income to ensure the coverage of commonly realized consumer costs pushes many citizens to the margins of society. It worries existing as well as potentially endangered population at the risk of poverty. The main reason may come from an unequal development of regions in Slovakia, what causes different job opportunities in labour market. The paper describes the structure and tendencies of poverty from the economic perspective in the area of the Western Slovakia (NUTS II region).
