Abstract

The paper is focused on the fisheries in Slovakia and their basic characteristics as well as analysis of its main elements, aquaculture and fish processing. Within the frame of aquaculture, fish farming facilities and fishponds are characterized. We also pay attention to their number and size, development of employment in aquaculture, production and consumption of fish in Slovakia. The next part of the paper is dedicated to the development of fish processing and production of goods from freshwater as well as saltwater fish. In the final part of the paper, the development of employment in fish processing in Slovakia is also evaluated.
