Abstract

The paper deals with the geographical characteristics of outlet centres in Europe with the closer focus on the centre in the municipality of Parndorf in Austria. In the initial – theoretical and methodological – part is presented a terminological explanation of the concept ‛outlet centre’. We point out some of realized researches in the field of shopping behaviour at the target shopping destination. Within the next chapter, we concern with the localisation of outlet stores in Europe with regard to their sales area. The core of the paper lies in the detailed characteristics of the Designer Outlet Parndorf and exploration of shopping behaviour of its customers coming from Slovakia. Through a questionnaire survey we pay attention to the selected specific features of customers' shopping customs. Finally, we summarize obtained findings and design a typical Slovak customer and in connection with the development of the outlet centres in Slovakia is outlined future of this shopping destination.
