The Health Status of Foreigners in the Asylum Center of Ministry of Interior Slovak Republic in Humenné Town

Abstract

This paper deals with the topic of the health of asylum seekers and refugees from third countries in our region, which were placed into asylum center of Ministry of Interior Slovak Republic in Humenné town in years 2009 – 2011. The threat of clogging an exotic illnesses and their infiltration to the local level is one of the most persistent prejudices of native population against foreigners. So it is necessary to pay attention to this issue. The relevance of these prejudices are often not supported by real data and information and this conductive the sketched stereotype. So the aim of this paper is to analyze the real situation of the indicators of health status of foreigners in asylum center of Ministry of Interior Slovak Republic in Humenné town in selected years and also point to the (non) validity of hidden prejudices of native population against foreigners at present.
