Abstract

The paper deals with the results of the Eurovision Song Contest and their spatial patterns, particularly with regard to mutual support of neighbouring countries, the so-called block voting. The paper discusses explanations such as political or cultural proximity or friendship and defines types of block voting such as the Scandinavian and the ex-Yugoslavian kind of block voting. The respective development of music market is identified as the main factor of making a voting group.
