Home cooperation

The department has, via the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, cooperation agreements with the following departments:

  • Institute of Geography SAS in Bratislava,

  • Slovak Environmental Agency in Banská Bystrica,

  • Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute in Bratislava,

  • Office of the Nitra Region.

Very good cooperation is also with all geographic departments in Slovakia - Bratislava, Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Ružomberok, and Košice.

International cooperation

The department has built very good international contacts especially with the Department of Geography Faculty of Education Masaryk University in Brno - since 1993, alternately in Nitra and Brno a joint international conference is held annually, which is devoted to the relevant issues of the Central European area. After the year 1990, it is the conference with the longest tradition in both countries. Outcomes of these conferences are multidimensional - they are represented not only by journal volumes of Geographical Information (Nitra) or Geography (Brno), but it is primarily a long-standing common space for communication and networking of professional and personal contacs.

Cooperation with other departments should be mentioned e.g. with the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, University of Ostrava in Ostrava, Jan Evangelista Purkyňe Univeristy in Ústí nad Labem, and Palacký University in Olomouc. Contacts are maintained also with Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg (Germany), University of Leicester (UK), University of Vienna or Unviersity of Szeged (Hungary).

Long-term cooperation is also maintained with the Austrian Institute of East and Southeast European Studies in Vienna. This institute significantly helped our department especially in the period of 1991-1997, when with its support, the department held several student field trips in Austria. The program of these excursions was aimed at, in addition to knowing the structure of natural and cultural landscape of Austria, also to visiting important geographical departments at Austrian universities.
