WELCOME TO OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, GEOINFORMATICS AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Geography and Regional Development FNS CPU in Nitra was honored by the visit of Mrs. Danuša Luknišová, the daughter of prof. RNDr. Michal Lukniš, DrSc. who was a founder of modern Slovak geography. The legacy of generations of geographers, especially his disciples and the followers of his ideas, is being promoted as well as the scientific work and research topics he has developed at international level. The monographs "Jakubiany", "Geography of the Landscape of Jur near Bratislava", "Relief of the High Tatras and Their Pre-plane" or the study "Regional Division of SSR in Terms of Its Rational Development" are still an inspiration and a model of regional geographic works for many geographers. When visiting the department, where she was accompanied by the head of department prof. Boltižiar, in a friendly atmosphere they together talked about the professor's personality. Mrs. Luknišová, who also studied geography at Comenius University in Bratislava and later turned to opera singing, also brought a number of rare and so far unpublished photographs, which will certainly find their place in the upcoming monograph of the Slovak Geographical Society called "This was the Professor Lukniš" which will include memories of the professor´s disciples, colleagues and followers. In the afternoon, they made a visit to the street at Čermáň urban part in Nitra, which has the professor's name. The day ended with a visit to his native village of Zlatno near Zlaté Moravce, where they stopped at his house with a memorial plaque on the occasion of his hundredth birthday in 2016 as well as a memorial room and a museum.
