WELCOME TO OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, GEOINFORMATICS AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

During April 22-27, 2019, prof. Dr. Joseph Salukvadze and MSc. Salome Kobaize from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia visited the Faculty of Natural Sciences CPU in Nitra.

Prof. Salukvadze is an internationally recognized expert in human geography and planning, MSc. Kobaize is a PhD student with experience in nature and landscape conservation in Georgia.

The visit took place in the framework of international development cooperation of the Slovak Republic, its main objective was to share experience and expertise in the field of ecology, environmental sciences and regional development between Slovakia and Georgia. During their stay, guests visited two workplaces of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and participated in the 18th International Symposium on Problems in Landscape Ecology Research "Landscape Diversity and Biodiversity" in Smolenice.

The host site was the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences FNS CPU in Nitra and members of the department (Prof. Petrovič, Doc. Mederly, MSc. Vaňo) and a representative of the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Dr. Halada) participated in joint meetings and consultations. In particular, they discussed the transformation of post-communist society and the impact of this process on the landscape, environment and society. Since the guests are geographers, a visit to the Department of Geography and Regional Development took place, where they were welcomed by the head of the department, prof. Boltižiar, in the framework of the interviews they also developed the possibilities of future closer cooperation. Prof. Salukvadze also appeared actively at the international symposium, where he led one working section and gave a lecture on "Urban Landscape Transformation: Market versus Planning in Tbilisi".

We believe that the visit was the first step towards the development of our university's cooperation with Ivan Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University - the positive thing is that the ERASMUS + program was signed in April.
