Abstract
The paper deals with the planning culture in the Czech Republic as a Central European post-socialist country. It deals mainly with strategic planning in urban development, which some referred to as "the new planning culture", and problems with its practical application. This paper draws empirical evidence mainly from the author's research, carried out during the past five years. It is mainly research of 384 cities, realized between 2011 and 2012. Strategic planning of cities and regions is a frequently discussed topic today. Some reject it as an empty concept, others are hoping that after the planning incrementalism they have found a "new star in the planning heavens" because after the period of projectoriented planning there is demand for strategic concepts that would combine (integrate) development projects with developing visions.
