Abstract

Regionalization means separation of territorial units based on a particular characteristic, in our case the tourism potential of the Czech Republic districts. The method used is the cluster analysis which allowed to divide the input data matrix set of objects into clusters. A district (Czech: okres) has been chosen deliberately as basic spatial unit. The advantage of this approach is the public database of the Czech Statistical Office which is the source of input data. The tourism potential of individual districts has been determined using the methods of cluster analysis and the districts have been divided into six groups. The aim of our work is not in examining the definition of tourism potential at all but verification of suitability of the cluster analysis methods for its examination.

Keywords: regionalization, cluster analysis, tourism potential, qualitative differentiation of the Czech Republic
